I always wonder what made people build a city where they did(all cities). Is there a river there, or are you on the coast?

Winnipeg grew around the location where the Assiniboine and Red rivers join. We call it the Forks, but really, it's not so much a fork as a confluence. An awful lot of trade went up and down the rivers in the early days of the settlements.

I was standing on the closest thing we have to a mountain. I'm pretty sure it's the highest point in the city, which most of us call Garbage Hill. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it gets it's name from the fact that it used to be a landfill site which has been covered over in dirt.
