Very cool. Do you sell them at farmers market?

I was joking that we should. So far the plan is to freeze them and use them up ourselves, probably with some traded for other foodstuffs.

Do you freeze them raw like that? I've never gathered wild mushrooms. There are some local people who gather lobster mushrooms - at least I think that is what they're called - and sell them at the market. They get $9/pound for them and they sell out!

Preservation varies by mushroom type. These are Chanterelle mushrooms and the most common system is to quick-freeze them individually (on cookie sheets, for example) before bagging them. The usual recommendation is to dry-clean them first rather than washing them, and they hold up quite well.

We probably could make a killing selling them, they tend to be quite pricey as well. Mainly though we're looking for some healthy tasty foods for ourselves and this is obviously cheaper than buying them.

That's great. We have a lot of fungus growing in the mountain forests, but I don't know one from another. I should learn. I love mushrooms.
