I bought a brand-new Canon digital SLR today. It is phenomenal. I am so happy with it, and I don't even know half of what it can do yet. I talked over some camera stuff with sennex yesterday and today, as well as one of the instructors at my school, and ended up with a Canon 20d plus a basic 18-55mm lens and accessory kit. It took a bit of finagling to get it to speak with Serendipity, but I've imported 100 photos so far (I probably took and deleted three times that number with experiments) to examine in more detail. It is a joy to behold. It's very responsive, has a complete suite of manual override settings as well as some pretty flexible programmed settings, excellent resolution, and more. I still need to pick up a film body as well, but I'll likely get one used instead of new. Most of the work I do will be digital anyway and while I'm really looking forward to playing with film again, a lot of the strengths of the digital media mesh well with my own photographic style.
School itself starts 9:00 am Monday. I'm very excited about that too. There was an orientation on Thursday where I got to meet the teachers and 15 out of 16 students (one couldn't make it). In addition to the camera, I bought most of the other supplies on the list they handed out. I'm so happy that I took the chance to leap out of my accidental call-centre career and do something that I value.
So, yeah, I'll probably be posting a lot more pictures now. I'm going to have a few projects on the go to help myself observe my progress, though I'm probably still going to be quite choosy about what I publish here.
