Nothing personal about it, but there's something so esoteric about this photo, I can't stop admiring it: lighting, mood, position, relationship between subject and photographer.....absolute perfection.
It's funny, I used to be almost scared of taking portraits, but I've gotten a lot more confident with them. It's a tough balance, trying to keep the sense of spontanaity which drives most of my work but still capturing an interesting expression. I'm definitely getting better though.
I'm glad to hear it! I think I have a different eye for what makes a "good" portrait than many people, and I certainly prefer capturing a moment of reality over creating a posed setting. It helps that these portraits are all of family, so there's a pretty high comfort level involved.
