With nighttime photography, picking a white balance can be tricky. I posted one of these images around the start of the month, but I'm curious to hear which one people prefer. They are from the same capture, the only difference is in white balancing for how the lights normally appear to the eye versus shifting the artificial lights to white. Any feedback is welcome.

I like them both. To my untrained eye, the first one looks more natural, and warm. The second one looks a little more surreal, blue, and the lights above the boat seem to pop out a bit more.

That pretty much is the difference ^_^ but if they both work for you, that's good to know.

i like the blu one :) looks like a photograph should look, like what you would want your eye to see...

I find that interesting. I personally do like the blue one better as well, but for me, I tend to think that the warmer tones of the first look more natural or true-to-life.

it *is* more natural, like i said every eye *wants* to see blue water but how many do? everyone thinks white light is better, but most have yellow... you see what i mean now?
its more what ppl 'expect' i guess is how you could phrase it....

Ah, yes. Indeed, water is rarely as blue in reality as it is in our memories.

Hmm. This was a tough one. I really like the blue one - it has a surrealistic quality. But the top one is more realistic and I like the softness of the yellow-green hues.

Probably didn't tell you anything you didn't already know!

If I had to pick one, it would be the top one. The bottom one feels cold. Like there should be pieces of ice floating in the water and people shouldn't be standing around outside.

I can see the logic there. I do still go back and forth, but generally I'm fond of the surrealistic quality of the cooler version.
